When it comes to airplanes, Ed Franz is the man! A regular on the flying fields, Ed flies competition sailplanes both electric and non-powered (and wins those comps!), but when he's competing in competitions he pretty much will pilot anything that glides around the sky. Ed is the only pilot that uses our Cobra Brushless motor line primarily for airplane use.
Age: 55 years young
How long have you been in the hobby? 45 years!
How did you get started in the hobby? My younger brother introduced me into the more hardcore R/C cars around 6 years ago, leading right into helicopters from his uncle. The Quad-FPV aspect came from a simple youtube video I happened upon from the "Multicopter" subreddit.
What machines/equipment are you running? My build-out currently consists of the Blackout Mini-H Frame, Naze32 Flight Controller, Lumenier 12 amp ESK (SimonK), Cobra CM2204/28 2300Kv Motors, ImmersionRC 600mw Video Transmitter, FatShark Dominator HD Goggles, GemFan 5x4 Props, Running a 3s Setup with the FrSky Taranis X9D Plus
Recent competitions/fun-flys attended? Every chance I get, I am out in the sky around the San Diego and Orange County areas with my son Kael and wife Holleigh loving the hobby as much as I am (Mostly because it gets me out of the house ;P). With the amount of people flying in my area, meetups are a must. Waiting for a nice chance to have a great weekend on a race!
Which is your favorite Scorpion/Cobra product? By far the M2204 2300kv motors are my babies. The sound alone is enough to make you fall in love, but the reliability is what makes it a perfect couple. Once I made the switch, I just couldn't imagine making the move to another motor! If you haven't made the switch yet, trust me on this one, INSANE motors!
